How to play
The rules of The Crossover. These are the defaults — commissioners can tune many of them.
Your roster: 12 athletes, no bench
NFL (6): QB, QB, RB, WR, WR, FLEX (RB/WR/TE). NBA (6): G, G, F, F, C, FLEX (any). NBA positions use ESPN eligibility, including multi-position players. Every athlete is on your active roster, but only athletes in a scoring pair earn points that week.
Pairs
An NFL athlete and an NBA athlete form a valid pair if at least one of these is true:
- Jersey Same jersey number, as worn that week.
- Metro Their teams share a metropolitan area (Cardinals + Suns = Phoenix). Groupings are explicit and editable.
- Initials Same first and last initials (Josh Allen + Jarrett Allen). Accents, punctuation and suffixes like Jr. are ignored.
- Thursday Both actually played on Thursday that week. For an NBA athlete, the Thursday game must be their scoring game, which is their first game of the week with at least 1 minute played.
Each week the app picks your 3 highest-scoring pairs automatically, using each athlete at most once. It checks every possible combination rather than taking the best pair first. A pair that matches more than one way still counts once.
Roster restrictions
In each sport you may roster at most two athletes who share a jersey number, two who share a metro area, and two who share initials. NFL and NBA are counted separately. There is no limit on Thursday players.
Scoring
Weeks run Thursday through Monday, Central time.
NFL: full PPR from actual stats:
- Per passing yard: +0.04
- Passing TD: +4
- Interception thrown: -2
- Per rushing yard: +0.1
- Rushing TD: +6
- Reception (PPR): +1
- Per receiving yard: +0.1
- Receiving TD: +6
- Fumble lost: -2
- 2-pt conversion (pass, rush or catch): +2
- Kick/punt return TD: +6
- Offensive fumble recovery TD: +6
NBA: each real point is one fantasy point, counted from the first game of the week in which the athlete plays at least 1 minute. Games they sit out don't count, so if they rest Friday and play Sunday, Sunday is their scoring game. Only that one game counts, even if they play again later in the week.
The competition
There are no head-to-head matchups: the highest score of the week wins the week. Season standings rank teams by total points, with weekly wins shown separately.
Draft
The draft is a 12-round snake. Each owner has a 20-minute time bank for the whole draft, and it only runs during their own turns. If it runs out, that pick is skipped and the owner gets 5 more minutes (up to 2 times). Skipped picks are made up later from the draft room. Nobody is drafted for you.
Waivers
You can put in waiver claims any time. They all process Wednesday at 2:00 AM CT in priority order. Priority is rolling: a successful claim moves you to the back of the line. There is no bench, so every add needs a drop. After the run, unclaimed players are free agents you can add instantly until rosters lock at Thursday 2:00 AM CT.
